A Holiday with the Hoch family
More than just guests
What is it that makes the Sonnenburg so special? Is it the beautiful location in Oberlech, the food served here, the comfort, or maybe the atmosphere? These are certainly all factors. But many guests simply return because they have made friends at Hotel Sonnenburg.
“Over the years, a real friendship has developed with most of our guests. I remember the names of their children and when their birthdays are. Sometimes, when I greet a guest I remember when they first came to Sonnenburg as a child. I am glad that our hotel is such an integral part of these people’s lives,” says Daisy Hoch, describing her personal contact with guests, of whom over half return each year.
"Being a passionate skier I have been accompanying our sporty guests into the surrounding mountains for the past 30 years. We represent a kind of second home to them, a place where everything is familiar and well-loved,” Klaus Hoch explains.

Meeting friends and family
Some of our guests meet each year at Hotel Sonnenburg for Easter or Christmas. Like Veronika and Carlo Weitkamp from Germany, for example. Every year since 1987, they have been spending ten days at Hotel Sonnenburg during the Easter holidays. “Very soon, the fourth generation of our family will be introduced to the ,Hoch-e Welt’ (literally, ‘high world’), since our daughter Caroline and her husband Johannes are going to spend their first holiday since the birth of their child at Sonnenburg."
“A close friendship has developed between the Hoch family and our family,” reveals Veronika Weitkamp. Christoph, the Weitkamps’ son, often arrives spontaneously from Munich for some skiing at Oberlech and loves to visit the Hoch family. “Our only real family holiday of the year is our traditional stay at Sonnenburg for Easter. It’s their friendliness and hospitality that we appreciate most”, says Christoph about his family’s friendly relationship with their hosts.
