The first skiing club was founded at the beginning of the last century, followed soon after by the first ski races that became more and more popular with time. The first ski school in the region was founded in 1921 and the forerunners of today’s high-tech ski lifts were put into action as early as 1937.
High-tech infrastructure & guaranteed snow
In a ski region with the best guarantee of snow in the world (with an average of 7 m snowfall per winter, and 60% of the slopes additionally equipped with snow machines), you will find state-of-the-art equipment and ski lift facilities at 1,300 to 2,800 meters above sea level with nearly 300 km of ski slopes for all levels of proficiency from beginners to experts.
Over 1,000 qualified ski and snowboard teachers from 7 ski schools are here to help you with your first curves, while more proficient skiers in search of a challenge can try out one of the permanent racing tracks or fun parks.
The reusable Ski Arlberg Card enables hands-free passage through to the ski lifts, making your day’s skiing a real pleasure. Extra luxury is provided by heated seats on the chair lifts. Free ski buses take you from one village to the next, giving easy access both to the slopes and to the many great après-ski places in the area.
But even those who prefer to spend a day away from the ski slopes are sure to find just what they want on the Arlberg: from the spa facilities at the Sonnenburg Spa to enjoying one of the many outdoor options such as ice-skating, curling, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, winter hiking, or horse sleigh rides, there is something for everyone, guaranteeing fun for all the family.
