The sound of Music

When the Tanzcafé Arlberg Music Festival is announced in Lech Zürs, not only do the ski slopes turn into dancing slopes – the entire village is transformed into an all-encompassing dance hall. Whether nestled among the fantastic mountain backdrops, in elegant hotel bars or in a club – people celebrate and dance everywhere. Live music is a given, ranging from swing jazz and big band to pop, funk, R&B, urban brass and electro beats. Over the course of two weeks, unique musicians from all over the world come to the Arlberg. Alongside performances from international artists, the eighth edition of the Tanzcafé Arlberg Music Festival will also shine the spotlight on the diverse local music scene. After all, Austria is not only a famous winter sports nation, but also a great music country.

Let’s dance to The Sound of Music!

Big Band Lech feat. Louie Austen Swing jazz on a grand scale

We start with a huge line-up and a unique collaboration for the Tanzcafé Arlberg Music Festival 2020. Twenty years ago, Lech music school’s Big Band inspired the audience with their extensive repertoire covering Swing, Funk, Jazz-Rock, Latin-Jazz and Pop, and can look back on successful collaborations with many well-known musicians from the Austrian Jazz and Pop scene.

At the opening concert, the 23-piece ensemble will perform with none other than legendary entertainer and Jazz singer Louie Austen. A gentleman among crooners, he sings his way into fans’ hearts with his unique voice, wit and charm. He can confidently take on the most diverse genres of music. In the past, he could be found anywhere between New York and Las Vegas, where he also discovered and celebrated his love for the songs of great entertainers such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. The theme of the “Great American Songbook” will run throughout the concert, which will not only feature Louie Austen but Max The Sax as a guest musician, too.

Skolka Sparkling mix of reggae, ska & polka beats

Fresh brass sounds emanate from Weinviertel wine cellars. There, you will find a mix of pithy Ska and rich Polka beats, featuring some smooth Reggae while the whole composition is refined with a shot of electrifying Balkan sounds. When this beguiling mixture takes flight, you’ll find Skolka on stage. Off-beats and basses drift, the crowd dances, sweat drips from the ceiling, the hut shakes. Those who are seeking peace and quiet can simply hang on to Judy’s multi-faceted dialect singing and just listen. It’ll come at some point anyway – that one wind-instrument hook that catches you and carries you away. Before you know it, you’re part of the dancing, jumping masses, too.
