Dive into holiday bliss
Swimming & wellness
Swimming, splashing around and bathing fun are a must for every family summer holiday in Austria. It goes without saying that we have the right places in mind for little mermaids and water lovers.
In the indoor panorama pool directly in the Sonnenburg, you can relax in the pleasant water with the best views or play a round of Marco Polo. Regardless of the weather. Kids can also enjoy their first sauna experience in our family spa. The swimming pool library provides the right reading material for the poolside – including a large selection of water-themed children’s books.
The swimming fun continues at the public pool Lech Waldschwimmbad in the midst of the forest or the natural swimming pool AlmWasserPark in Klösterle. Large water worlds, children’s pools, water slides, diving platforms and more are waiting for you. But there’s more to boost your mood during your summer holiday with the family in Austria: Table tennis, beach volleyball and romping around on large children’s playgrounds are on the agenda.
Hiking & walking
Lace up your hiking boots and shoulder your backpack. One step outside the door of the Sonnenburg and you will find yourself right in the middle of a hiking paradise. Whether leisurely or ambitiously, you and your family can hike in Austria across lush green Alpine meadows, through pleasantly cool forests or towards the mountain peaks. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a marmot peeping out of its burrow. On the way back, you will be marvelling at the fantastic views of the valley, while the gondola drops all of you hard-working hikers off right in front of the hotel. Marvellous!
With 350 kilometres of well-maintained hiking trails, the region naturally has a lot to offer. For an active summer holiday with your family in Austria, we can recommend exciting themed hikes. And if you are travelling with a new addition to the family, there are also wonderful pram-friendly hikes to discover at the Arlberg. If you are up for it, our hiking guide also accompanies you on five guided family hikes per week.
Solving riddles & puzzles
We have something very special up our sleeve for all clever puzzlers: The puzzle hunt “Der Grüne Rätsel-Ring” takes you from one witty station to the next. Together as a family you puzzle your way from Lech to the Rud-Alpe and solve one riddle after another with the workbook (available for € 5 at the Lech Zürs Tourismus GmbH). Once you reach the top, there is not only a prize waiting, but also a tasty snack on the sun terrace and a water playground for the kids.
Geocaching also requires brains: the Schlegelkopfbahn cable car comfortably takes you up to 1,800 metres above sea level, where 10 treasures, so-called caches, are waiting to be discovered. The stations lead you and your kids on a circular route through the nature reserve “Gipslöcher” and through Oberlech. Perfect for a hiking holiday with your kids at the Arlberg!
Cycling & climbing
The Austrian mountains don’t just get you excited for hiking. In summer, guests of our family hotel in Austria love to hop on their bikes – all ages included. How wild it gets is entirely up to you: Freeride and downhill trails for action-loving mountain bikers spread around the Hotel Sonnenburg as well as relaxed e-bike tours.
If you still can’t get enough of the mountains, you can tackle the nearest steep face or a climbing garden. Indoor or outdoor climbing, bouldering, a via ferrata, children’s climbing or the climbing garden at the Rüfikopf – there’s plenty on offer vertically around Oberlech. Of course, we are happy to provide you with an experienced climbing guide or to organise climbing courses for all levels.
Yoga & relaxing
Do you need a relaxing break from all the action? Then get to know the peace and beauty of nature from a new perspective with our yoga classes. Four times a week, we invite you to our guided yoga sessions at the Sonnenburg – whether you are already an experienced yoga master or want to give it a try for the first time.
In summery, cheerful weather, the sessions take place on our conference terrace – for that extra bit of refreshing Alpine air and birdsong. But the view is impressive no matter where you train, thanks to the large panoramic window in our training area.
From museum mice to bookworms
Variety for the whole family on summer holiday in Austria
When you’re not out and about doing sports, we invite you and your family to enjoy cultural experiences and events around the Sonnenburg during your summer stay in our family hotel in Austria. We can tell you this much: It will never get boring, we promise!
Discover the Huber-Hus Lechmuseum, where children can explore the preserved 16th century house together with the museum mouse Huberta and her friend Odo. Or visit the Skyspace, an impressive art installation centred around the theme of light, which enchants visitors of all ages.
Experience tradition at the Lech village fair, which takes place every July. A concert by the band in traditional costume, delicious regional delicacies and entertainment for the children can be found at the Dorfplatz in Lech. The annual Lech Musikantentag, which is dedicated to folk music, is just as cheerful.
As a literary hotel, the world of books is very close to our hearts: Readings by children’s book authors (mostly in German) are regularly on our events calendar. Reading corners with plenty of books for all ages and book boxes in the rooms invite you to bury yourself in a book or read aloud at any time.
Sports-loving children, teenagers and parents can have fun regardless of the weather at sport.park.lech: billiards, bouldering and bowling are only a few of many activities that are most fun with your family. There is also an outdoor sports field for a family match of football, badminton or volleyball.
With the Lech card, you and your children can discover the Arlberg in all its facets and travel flexibly by bus and cable way. Enjoy many benefits and discounts – up in the mountain and down in the valley.
