Adventurous hikes for the whole family

Our favourite themed hiking trails at the Arlberg

Get ready for action!

A summer holiday in Lech at the Arlberg can be adventurous, relaxing, informative, romantic and much more – but never boring. Not only our family hotel Sonnenburg has a lot to offer, but also the region: Many memorable experiences are waiting for you right outside the door.

  • the Arlenzauberweg
  • the Green Riddle Ring
  • the Geology Hike

The themed hikes offer information, puzzles and more, allowing you and your kids to learn something new about nature and the region. The information and puzzles are in German. The hikes are easily manageable for children aged four and older.

The magical Arlenzauberweg

Relaxed, entertaining & at the water

Are there really carnivorous plants at the Arlberg? Which animals are living in the Libellensee (German for “dragonfly lake”)? And what is the Arlberg named after? These and more questions are answered at more than 20 child-friendly stops.

The hiking trail starts at the mountain station of the cable car Bergbahn Oberlech, which crosses the Sonnenburg. It leads you to the Libellensee, a favourite among kids. The German name says it all: dragonflys of up to 20 centimetres are making their rounds around the lake. You might even spot other critter such as frogs and newts. The trail continues slightly downwards and leads across a beautiful flower meadow at the Schlegelkopf all the way to the Rud-Alpe. A sun deck with a stunning view is waiting for you: enjoy refreshing drinks and delicious snacks while your children are having a blast at the water playground, the tree house or petting zoo.

The trail is not suitable for baby buggies, but you can borrow a handcart from the cable car station Bergbahn Oberlech.

  • distance: approx. 2 km
  • opening hours of the Bergbahn Oberlech: 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 12.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (24 June to 3 October 2022)
  • opening hours Rud-Alpe: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (closed on Wednesdays)

By the way: for all little scientists and researcher, there is an exercise sheet (German only) which you can take with you on the hiking trail. Your kids can fill it in on the way and hand it in at the Rud-Alpe. If all answers are correct, they’ll receive a little surprise. Our team is happy to print out the work sheet for you at the reception.

The Green Riddle Ring

Exciting & informative for young & old

A particularly special experience is the Green Riddle Ring – not only for kids, but for adults too.

Very important: to get the whole experience, you’ll need the lovingly made workbook, which is available at the Lech Zürs tourist information for around 5 €. We can promise that it’s worth it and lifts the hike to another level.

The Green Riddle Ring starts in Lech at the Rüfiplatz and, as the Arlenzauberweg, it leads to the Rud-Alpe. Along the way, you’ll find many stops with riddles that are waiting to be solved with some fantasy and brain. Sometimes you’ll have to climb, fish, twist, or pump to find the solution. The workbook will have to endure quite a bit: it will be coloured in, stamped or even torn apart. Yes, you’ve read that right! But that’s the only way to get to the password.

  • distance: 0.6 km
  • easy and almost flat trail
