A holiday without skiing

Is it unthinkable not to ski in Austria’s largest ski resort? Absolutely not! Plenty of guests, who come to Lech on holiday, don’t ski. However, they still enjoy a fantastic holiday because there is so much to do here away from the slopes.

Tobogganing

The toboggan is probably the most fun piece of equipment for non-skiers. Here in Oberlech there is a 1.2km long toboggan run, which takes you through the forest from Oberlech down to Lech. The ride down is guaranteed to raise your adrenalin levels and is so much fun you are likely to go again. The Oberlech cable car will take you back up to the start within 3 minutes and then OFF YOU GO again! Tobogganning is great fun for young and old. A toboggan ride from Oberlech to Lech on the lit toboggan run is a lot of fun. This spectacular route guarantees an unforgettable adventure for the whole family. Toboggans can be rented here in the hotel at the Sport Huber ski rental shop or from the Oberlech cable car station.  The 1.2km long toboggan run winds through the forest of Lech and includes a few very fast bends. It’s guaranteed to raise your adrenaline levels and leave you wanting more.  The Oberlech cable car takes you back up to the start in under 4 minutes.

Experience Arlberg without skis.

There is plenty to do in Lech without skis.  Many of the lifts also take non-skiers, so that you can also enjoy the culinary delights on the Arlberg peaks. Petersbodenbahn, right next to Sonnenburg, takes you right up to Der Wolf and also Kriegeralpe.  The Zuger lift takes you to Balm Alp and with the Schlegelkopf lift you can reach the new Schlegelkopf restaurant.  The Rüfikopf cable car takes you to the peak of peaks: fantastic panoramic views stretching as far as Germany and Switzerland await you at Rüfikopf.

Cross-country skiing track for non-skiers In beautiful Lech am Arlberg, which attracts skiers from all over the world between the end of November and mid April, cross-country skiing is becoming more and more popular. With its guaranteed snow, breathtaking backdrop of the Alps, and the famous Vorarlberg hospitality, this ski resort attacts cross-country skiers with around 30 km of perfectly prepared tracks taking you through various terrain.  You can choose between different tracks according to ability. Among others are the two kilometre long Spullerswaldweg and the 2.8 kilometer long route from Lech to Zug.  From Zug there is a 3.5 kilometre long loipe to Älpele, the starting point for an eight kilometre long round tour through Tannläger. Higher up the mountains, Gaisbühel (6 kilometres long) crosses an often sunny plateau and has spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, but is technically very demanding and requires good physical condition. You can reach the starting point of this track with the Schlosskopf lift or the local bus.  Please be aware that cross-country skiing tracks in Oberlech will not be prepared before midday when it has been snowing. Equipment is only available in sports rental shops in Lech. The Sonnenburg concierge can easily organise everything for you.

The stretch between Zug and Tannläger also has classic cross-country skating tracks.

Carriage rides

Enjoy a wonderful and cosy carriage ride, whether it be a short or long journey. Sonnenburg’s concierge will gladly organise a carriage ride for you, with a great meal to finish it off.

Ice skating

Lech am Arlberg has the answer for all of those who wish to hit the ice on holiday. There is an indoor ice skating rink in the centre of Lech and a natural ice rink in Zürs.
